What the "we could not complete that action" error message means, and what to do if you encounter it.

Updated this week

When logging into Sage Carbon Accounting, you may see the error message We could not complete that action or a blank page displaying Welcome to Sage Business Cloud. This usually means your access to Carbon Accounting has been removed.

Why this happens

Some possible causes of this error are

  • Issues with your user login session or browser

  • Your user account has been deleted

  • Your Carbon Accounting permissions were removed by an account administrator.

What you'll see

After trying to open Sage Carbon Accounting you may then see the following error:

You may see this error if your access to Sage Carbon Accounting has been removed, but you still have access to Sage Business Cloud Accounting or Payroll.

How to resolve this error

Some general troubleshooting steps to start with:

  • Refresh the page

  • If the error shows after performing a specific action, try logging out and back in, then retry that action.

  • Log into Sage Carbon Accounting using an incognito/private browsing window.

If you've tried these steps and still experience this error, it may be that your user account has been deleted, or your Carbon Accounting permissions were removed by an account administrator.

Steps for account administrators

  2. Select your business name at the top of the page.

  3. Click Manage users to update access.
