What data does legacy Sage Earth use in its calculations?

Discover what datasets legacy Sage Earth uses to work out your carbon footprint

Updated over 2 months ago

Please note: This article relates to our legacy Sage Earth platform, and not the current Sage Earth Carbon Accounting platform.

To complete our calculations we have built on a mix of government and industry-specific datasets that are regularly maintained and scientifically validated.

We supplement these datasets with further specific detail captured directly from you about your business operations. This data is collected or checked with you quarterly to ensure it is reflective of your latest company information.

All sources of data that we use in our calculations are chosen against a strict criteria and must be: specific, complete and accurate.

This is a list of the sources as of August 2021:

  • SIC code database (Office for National Statistics)

  • Merchants SIC codes (Companies House)

  • Consumer Price Index (ONS)

  • Direct consumption data (DEFRA data set hosted by UK GOV)

  • Energy prices (BEIS/DUKES)

  • UK fuels splits (BEIS)

  • Working from home (EcoAct)

  • Travel to work (2011 census)

  • Cars (DfT dataset)
