Purchased services

Helping you to understand the data required

Updated over a month ago

What are Purchased services?

Purchased services are services which a business has purchased over the quarter. This can include anything from maintenance and repairs to professional services. These emissions are classified under Scope 3.1 of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (freelancers, third party services and other services you have bought and paid for).

Note: This module is only visible to users who have not connected an accounting platform to Sage Earth Carbon Accounting. If you have connected an accounting platform, purchased services usage comes from your financial data.

What you’ll need to get started

To calculate your purchased services emissions, you’ll need:

  • Type of service purchased

  • Cost of service

Choosing the right option

There are a number of possible scenarios when completing this module. Follow the steps that best describe your situation:

1. You can provide details of the type and cost of service

  • Enter the service type and cost of the service. If you have multiple items of the same service, the costs can be combined and entered as one figure.

  • You can add as many entries as you need to cover all of your service purchases.

2. Your business does not have Purchased services emissions

  • Select “I don’t have these emissions” from the module’s front page.

  • This confirms that your business didn’t purchase any services during the selected quarter.

  • Your footprint for this module will be recorded as 0 kg CO₂e and the module will be marked as complete.
